Cha Cha Cha Cha Changes.........

As I was reading the New Mexican today I stumbled upon some of the real and present effects of this little problem we are facing (quite obtusely) of Global Warming. It amazes me that just a mere 18 months ago, politicians, partisans and pundits were all speaking about this thing that "might" be happening. I am extremely concerned , are you?. So far the best response to the problem has been the development of " Green Consumerism"......really? Could this be our best effort at solving the problem?, more of more made out of less. Well as these real effects of population expansion and Global Warming continue to surface I will post them as I am convinced that many of us think of this as something that will begin effecting us later. I think it is now.
3,000 flying foxes dropped dead!

Wow now we are turning things on there ears a bit. Buy less, shop locally, seek quality and durability in that which you do consume.
Peace,

Telemark Ski Demo Day?

Well it sure is encouraging to see a little of the white stuff up in the hills after the blustery arrival of winter over the past weekend. While we had hoped that this would be enough for us to pull off our scheduled Telemark Demo Tour day at Ski Santa Fe on Dec. 8, it is not looking good (#$%@*&^#$@%). We hope that the miracle storm of the century happens tonight or tomorrow but fellow free healers, it is not looking good fro this week. Stay in touch with the shop at 984-8221 for further updates as to the possible rescheduling . We are snow dancing for turns. Wolf Creek just got dumped and according to Roy Hughes the skiing is pretty good based on a visit Monday Dec 3rd. We are still offering 15% off Skis. Boots and Binding's until the season opening. Thanks for your support.

Early Onset Ski Psychosis EOSP

Early adult onset of pre-season ski psychosis is upon us with the opening of the Santa Fe Ski Swap today. With the weather its usual balmy 70 degree's I have noticed an acute change in the onset of the EOSP condition. Here at Sangre de Cristo Mountain Works we too are beginning to feel the pangs of the mysterious winter before us.With a rack full of the hottest Telemark and AT Ski's and a Wall full of boots we are locked and loaded for what we hope will pan out to be a winter of joyous indulgence.

To help alleviate some of the early season jitters, we are offering
15% all ski gear through the month of November in the store. Stop by and bend and flex your way to the best early season deals. While the forcast is looking better to get a little bit of the white lady in the mountains soon, for those who just must get it on now, here is the stoke on Colorado skiing (Colorado Ski Reports).

So this week we got a bunch of cool new stuff in the store like
Volkl Ski's for example, there really cool and there really fast too. We are sort of the back country experts around town so we like to carry cool stuff just ask Bob Lee, our in-house ski doctor. Oh yeah if you want him to do a really good ski boot fit he will probably charge you for it, if not in green back then definetly in Beer. We also are sporting a great fall collection of outerwear from Cloudveil (we were just nominated an inspired mountain retailer by them, impressive huh?), Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear and ArcTeryx and there are quite a few more but You will need to come in and see for your self.

So I am a little sore today as I was hit in the head with a frying pan for using my lovely wife's Iron ( the one for the clothes) to wax my ski's. I am a believer that when one is losing faith in Mother Nature tempting her with the smell of petex and wax is often a good solution. I innocently set to waxing when I turned to be met with a 10 gauge iron fryer. ( Not really but it makes the story better) , So thats, thats. Now back to my point.

Weather is a light obsession of most of ours, and as the season approaches, I know our friends over at the Weather Channel are scripting up some real action for us daily so as to keep us well informed of the changing weather up to the minute. They are sort of heroe's in my eye's and truly unsung celebrities as they go out and duct tape themselves to poles in hurricanes and fires so as to really give us the ultimate sense of mother natures true power. If I were drinking I would raise a glass to those Blue Coated hero's of the technical outerwear world. How could we function without 24 hour weather and up to the minute forcasting. Get your weather from the oracle.

Did you get our new holiday gift guide?, did you know there was $25 smackeroonies (those are dollars) on the back cover for your shopping pleasure.Stop by and pick up your Holiday Gift Guide and start Christmas off with a little Cashola in your pocket.
When you are not glued to the television or getting yelled at by your significant other for using the home iron to wax your skis, keep your eyes peeled for the long awaited launch of the sdcmountainworks online store.

Remember Ride Your bike,Free your heel, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, remember to vote , shop locally and eat Chile everyday.

Thanks for making Sangre de Cristo Mountain Works your choice for outdoor apparel, equipment and accessories.

A Little Wisdom........................

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day
are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses of wine...

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of
him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty
mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He
shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf
balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of
course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was
full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured
the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.
The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize
that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things:
your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite
passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your
life would still be full."

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and
your car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for
the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your
time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the
things that are important to you."

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your
children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner.
Play another 18. Do one more run down the ski slope. There will always be
time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first;
the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no
matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of glasses
of wine with a friend."- Unknown

Chile Time

In Santa Fe, you know it is Fall when the air begins to smell of Green Chile Roasting in the day and sweet Pinon smoke fills the air in the evening. Santa Fe is an incredibly olfactory place as the nose always knows the season based upon the smells in the air ( all pleasant ones ). Green and Red Chili are century old traditions here in the City Different and we go nuts for our chile. Take a drive down any major thorough fare and you will find chile from Chimayo ( Red) , Soccoroo Green and of course the legendary Hatch green known far and wide as the real Chile capital of the world.Just the other day while venturing down Cerrillos road I spied a Hatch Chile stand and stopped to get an entire 50 lb burlap of chile roasted. As the local farmer loaded the chili I asked to sample some medium ( which is all relative to the palette.)Mmmmmmmm no better way to keep a fall cold away.
If you are venturing to Santa Fe in the fall head out on Cerrilos or head to the local farmers market and load up on what we locals consider to be one of our finest local traditions. now if I could just get my elk meat, I will be styling for the winter. Eat Chile Every Day!
