The Coming arrival of NTN

With great anticipation many free heeler's are fired up to ski the new release from Rottefella Bindings as well as Boots from Scarpa annd Crispi for NTN or New Telemark Norm. The system strays away from the traditional 75mm toe piece that has been so integral in the Telemark ski world really since its inception by the grandfather of telemark Sondre Norheim and presents the skier with a revolutionary new hyper active binding boot combination.
The New Telemark Norm binding is a blend between the awesome uphill ski ability of an AT Binding as well as the most powerful and active boot binding interface I have ever skied. In February last year in Keystone we piled into a dank condo with the Tao's Mountain Outfitters crew to ski the latest and greatest from everyone. While the ski industry itself has changed dramatically, the telemark binding in ts general design has remained the same. The new NTN creates a solid clamping vise like binding which grabs the newly rounded NTN Boots from Scarpa and Crispi. As Ski buyers and avid telemarker's we were like many very suspect of how this new system would work. The NTN is a cartridge driven binding which offers four different levels of stiffness catering to those who want a more traditional feel neutral binding as those whose aim is to leave ruts in the snow wherever they go.
I being the later skied the set up with the new Scarpa NTN with fully loaded cartridges on a new Volkl T Rock ski. the set up was amazing and despite a few minutes of stance and weight adjustment , once I found the sweet spot it was game on. after a few runs, I was hesitant to even return them and make a break for Santa Fe immediately. Wow, this is a radical new iteration of the boot binding interface and all ski buyers whom I spoke with across the Rockies were pretty damned impressed.
Check out Back Country Access for more information on the NTN and stop by Sangre de Cristo Mountain Works and check out the latest in Telemark and AT Skiing.
